Antibody testing
What is an antibody?
An antibody is a biological molecule that is part of the human immune system. It works in response to any foreign particles or antigens that are found inside the body.
How is an antibody test carried out?
To carry out an antibody test you will need to do a blood so that we can test to see if you have had the covid-19 vaccination or had the virus itself at any point of time.
When the test is done, it will be determined whether your body’s immune response to a vaccination or a virus of any infection or virus.
What do the test results mean?
A positive test result will mean that you have had the coronavirus infection previously, however, a positive test could also indicate that your immune system’s response is functioning as it should and that it produces antibodies for the coronavirus vaccine.
A negative test result will indicate no production of antibodies for the coronavirus. This could mean that your body is still in the process of developing the antibodies that are required for the specific antigen. Usually, it takes anywhere between 27-30 days for the body to produce antibodies, however this process can sometimes take longer.
Any results that aren’t a positive or a negative result is considered an anomaly. This means that the test has not worked. This can happen because of the testing kit being broken or the blood sample was too little. The anomalous results could still be stated and be used for further research purposes.
